PRECINCT

PRECINCT

In the signed and numbered limited edition Artist's Book 'PRECINCT' Angela Edmonds writes a brief overview of the background history to The St Andrews Shopping Precinct in South Oxhey, Hertfordshire. The book is printed in an Edition of only fifty copies, each copy hand signed and numbered.
The text is accompanied by over 30 full page colour images of her recent photographs taken prior to the total demolition and redevelopment of The Precinct.
The original St Andrews Precinct could be seen as a model of the optimism and cultural multiplicity of its period and its subsequent demise perhaps owes as much to its allowed neglect as it does to the urgent need for more housing. Yet it has remained the heart of the Estate for the local community.

PRECINCT offers a heuristic view of history, even in its most inconspicuous moments. Here is a Place, prior to a moment of discontinuity, a time of change. Copies are held in The Women’s Art Library at Goldsmiths College and in The Martin Parr Collection at Tate Britain.

Paper Trail 11

Paper Trail 11

Inspired by the uses and history of paper. The work consists of an early cigarette rolling machine, used punched paper tape from Bletchley Park Colossus Computer, and a ten pound note. The form and function of the antique cigarette roller mirrors the form and function of the Foudrinier paper making machine used at Frogmore Paper Mill. Without paper the Colossus computer would not have functioned.

The sculpture was exhibited in 'Material Matters' in 2013 at Frogmore Paper Mill, the oldest mechanised Paper Mill in the world.
